Patent Validity and Valuation Studies/Licensing

Companies contemplating an acquisition frequently commission a study or legal opinion on the validity and/or valuation of the patents. The exact issues studied in the patents can vary quite a bit. The terms of patent licensing agreements can also vary quite a bit, such as anywhere from a one-time flat fee, to a continuing monthly or annual license fee of anywhere from a very small percentage to 14-15% of revenue.
